Kolkata, July 28: Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT cell, praised the West Bengal government’s efforts, claiming that development projects in the state have gained unprecedented momentum in the past three months. He shared details of significant decisions and central schemes made in the last three days via a post on the social media platform ‘X’.
Malviya announced a proposal for a new state university in Jalpaiguri to enhance higher education in North Bengal, providing better academic opportunities for local students.
In the energy sector, he noted the approval of 2,400 megawatts of new thermal power capacity in the state. This includes two units of 800 megawatts each in Santaldih under a PPP model and an 800-megawatt unit by WBPDCL in Bakreshwar. The project will see an investment of ₹10,070 crores.
To strengthen railway infrastructure, platform number 24 at Howrah Station has been inaugurated. Malviya stated that this will enhance the capacity of one of the busiest railway stations in the country.
He also mentioned the implementation of a startup policy in the state aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, and new employment opportunities.
In the industrial and employment sectors, Amul has proposed establishing a mega ice cream plant in North Bengal. This project follows a ₹700 crore dairy initiative in Sankrail and represents another significant investment. Additionally, preparations are underway to revive 10 to 12 closed tea gardens under the Prime Minister’s Tea Workers Scheme, creating new job and livelihood opportunities in the region.
Regarding tourism and environmental conservation, Malviya stated that the Sundarbans are being developed as a world-class eco-tourism destination. Furthermore, a 4,500-hectare conservation reserve in Purulia and a 1,000-acre tiger safari in Jhargram will also be developed.
In conclusion, Amit Malviya emphasized that rapid progress is being made in education, energy, infrastructure, industry, tourism, and employment in West Bengal. He attributed this to the strength of the double-engine government, asserting that it is making decisive moves to bring real change to people’s lives.
