Mumbai, March 21: Mumbai police reported on Saturday that a 29-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband following a dispute over alcohol consumption in the Wadala area.
The victim has been identified as Kavita Mahesh Wad. According to the police, her husband, Mahesh Narayan Wad, fled the scene after the incident but was later apprehended.
Authorities stated that the accused brutally attacked his wife with kicks and punches, resulting in severe injuries. Kavita was subsequently taken to KEM Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Officials noted that her condition likely worsened due to a delay in receiving medical assistance.
A post-mortem examination revealed signs of severe physical assault, with multiple bruises on Kavita’s body indicating a history of violence.
A murder case has been filed against the accused at Wadala police station under Section 103 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and he is currently in custody.
The complaint was lodged by Kavita’s brother, Shubham Ramesh Lodi, who resides in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, and is originally from Murud in Raigad district.
According to the complaint and initial investigation, Kavita and Mahesh Wad lived in Ganesh Nagar near the Ganesh Temple in Wadala. Police reported that Mahesh was an alcoholic, which often led to disputes between the couple.
On the day of the incident, Mahesh reportedly returned home inebriated, leading to yet another argument. In a fit of rage, he attacked Kavita and threw a mobile phone at her face, causing serious injuries. Despite her critical condition, he did not take her to the hospital immediately, exacerbating her injuries.
Later, Kavita lost consciousness at home and was eventually taken to the hospital, where she died during treatment.
The case came to light after the post-mortem report was released, prompting her brother to formally accuse Mahesh of murder. Based on the complaint, police initiated a search operation.
After the incident, the accused went into hiding, prompting the formation of two teams to locate him. He was ultimately found and arrested at a relative’s house. The investigation is ongoing.
