Kolkata, May 28: Amid rising internal strife within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and ongoing criticism directed at General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has penned a poem titled “Chameleon.” This piece serves as an indirect message to the party’s dissenters.
On Wednesday night, Mamata shared the Bengali poem on her Facebook page. It is perceived as a subtle attack on those fostering discontent within the party and attempting to leave during this crisis.
In the opening lines, she writes, “More dangerous than chameleons are those shapeshifters who change colors quickly to protect their interests and sources of income.”
The poem further elaborates that such individuals can alter their colors and character in mere hours, sacrificing the dignity of workers and the common people for their economic gain.
Through her verses, Mamata also issues a warning to the rebel leaders. She states, “Just as the wheels of a chariot turn, so too will yours. You will face the consequences. That day, traitors will understand what inhumanity and worthlessness truly mean.”
Political analysts believe Mamata was already aware of the growing discontent within the party. Following the election results, during her first meeting with newly elected legislators, she remarked that those wishing to leave TMC were free to do so.
Since then, internal opposition within the party has intensified. Mamata’s poem is seen as a direct message to the rebel leaders, sparking new discussions in the political corridors of West Bengal.
