Three Bangladeshis Arrested in West Bengal for Illegal Residency

Kolkata, May 28: Three Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in the Baruipur police station area of South 24 Parganas for allegedly entering India illegally and residing in the state.

One of the arrested individuals, a Bangladeshi woman, made sensational claims that a local member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had taken money from her under the pretext of helping her obtain an Aadhaar card.

Acting on a tip-off, police from the Mallikpur outpost conducted a raid in the area. During this operation, a Bangladeshi couple was apprehended. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shafiqul Islam Mollah and his wife, Monira Begum.

Initial investigations revealed that their residence is located in the Chaluhati village under the jurisdiction of the Monirampur police station in Jessore district, Bangladesh.

Investigators claim that the couple crossed the India-Bangladesh border illegally with the help of a smuggling ring. After crossing the border, they settled in the Mallikpur area under the Baruipur police station in South 24 Parganas.

The police have launched a detailed investigation to determine how they were living locally, where they were working, and how long they had been residing in the area.

Authorities reported that after entering India, the couple attempted to settle permanently in the area with assistance from some locals. Investigators suspect they were also trying to obtain Indian identification documents.

Interrogations of the arrested individuals are ongoing to uncover their motives for entering India, the role of the smuggling network, and their local contacts.

However, Monira Begum’s allegations have added a new twist to the case. After being taken into custody, she claimed that she had approached a local representative for help in obtaining identification documents.

Monira Begum accused Shahjahan Sardar, a member of the TMC from the Mallikpur gram panchayat in the Baruipur Paschim assembly constituency, of taking ₹5,000 from her with the promise of facilitating an Aadhaar card.

She stated that identification documents were necessary for local residency, which is why she sought his assistance.

The allegations suggest that Shahjahan Sardar accepted the money for the Aadhaar card but failed to deliver any results. Monira Begum claimed that despite multiple attempts to contact him, she received no satisfactory response.
