Murshidabad, April 6: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has responded sharply to allegations labeling West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a ‘BJP agent.’ He asserted that Banerjee is, in fact, the BJP’s biggest ally. According to him, as long as Banerjee is in power, the BJP may not need his support.
Chowdhury addressed reporters, stating, “As long as Mamata Banerjee is in West Bengal, I cannot approach the BJP. In reality, she was the one who brought the BJP into Bengal. Not only that, she has also served as a minister in a BJP-led government. With her in West Bengal, the BJP has no need for Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.”
He further elaborated, “In terms of political equations, Mamata Banerjee is indeed their biggest ally. They often collaborate during elections. There are times when they seem to align on issues like ‘Pro NRC, No NRC’ and ‘Pro SIR-No SIR’.”
Chowdhury also commented on a recent attack during a rally, stating, “During the election campaign, some miscreants from the Trinamool Congress tried to obstruct me. The local police did not take any precautionary measures, despite being informed of the potential for such incidents. We had to confront them ourselves to continue our rally.”
Regarding Congress’s chances in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Chowdhury remarked, “I cannot provide specific figures. What matters is that we are fighting, and we have hopes that the outcome will be favorable.”
In response to comments made by Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif about an ‘attack on Kolkata,’ Chowdhury said, “He can only make statements. He is struggling with hunger himself. A country that cannot feed its own people cannot threaten anyone else. Pakistan should focus on feeding its citizens first.”
