Mamata Banerjee Disrespects Constitution by Refusing to Resign, Claims Karnataka Opposition Leader R. Ashoka

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka’s Opposition Leader R. Ashoka accused Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), of disrespecting the Constitution by refusing to resign from her position as Chief Minister. He stated that if she has grievances, she should seek legal recourse instead of resorting to violence.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Ashoka emphasized that Banerjee’s refusal to step down is a blatant disregard for the Constitution. He suggested that her call for others to dismiss her is merely a ploy to create drama. He criticized her lack of understanding of both the law and the Constitution.

Ashoka further alleged that Banerjee is clinging to her position as Chief Minister, likening it to being stuck with glue. He asserted that any dignified Chief Minister would resign when necessary, highlighting the need for respect for the office. He accused her of wanting riots to occur, referencing the murder of Chandranath Rath by TMC leaders.

He claimed that Banerjee seeks to control the entire state single-handedly. Even if she does not resign, her powers will automatically diminish once the current assembly is dissolved.

Ashoka pointed out her arrogance in believing that she alone should remain in power. Despite her long tenure as Chief Minister, he noted her fundamental lack of understanding, which the public has recognized.

He questioned how Banerjee would react if previous leaders who ruled for 30 years behaved similarly. If she faces difficulties, he advised her to approach the court, recalling that they also took legal action in the case related to D.N. Jeevaraj. He stressed that legal battles should be fought in court, not through violence.

In a related note, the Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, criticized Congress for its actions. He accused the party of hastily seeking ministerial positions from actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay’s party, which won more seats in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at the BJP state office ‘Jagannath Bhavan,’ Narayanaswamy remarked that despite being a national party, Congress has become embarrassingly desperate. He noted that Congress, which previously allied with DMK, is now begging for ministerial roles from Vijay’s party after losing its coalition.
