New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : On September 9, 2026, the world is celebrating World EV Day, highlighting the global shift towards clean energy. In India, the electric vehicle (EV) market is thriving, with sales surpassing 10 million units. This growth reflects an impressive annual increase of 79 percent over the past 12 years.
On this occasion, H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries, took to social media platform X to emphasize India’s journey toward electric mobility. He noted that this progress aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a clean, green, and self-reliant future.
Kumaraswamy stated that with over 10.1 million electric vehicles sold, the adoption of electric mobility is accelerating across the nation. The central government’s initiatives, such as the “PM e-Drive” scheme, have played a crucial role in promoting EVs. Under this program, subsidies have been provided for 2.863 million electric vehicles, including more than 2.588 million electric two-wheelers, 275,000 electric three-wheelers, and 53 e-trucks.
According to the ministry, from the fiscal year 2011-12 to September 2026, a total of 10,158,449 electric vehicles have been sold in India. Notably, the fiscal year 2025-26 saw sales of 2,545,622 units, marking the highest figure recorded in a single year.
In conclusion, Kumaraswamy expressed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening India’s EV ecosystem, promoting clean mobility, and developing a globally competitive, technology-driven automotive industry as the nation progresses towards “Developed India 2047.”
