Mamata Banerjee Announces Backlog DA Payment for State Employees and Pensioners

Kolkata, March 15: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a significant announcement for state employees and pensioners on Sunday. She stated that her government is fulfilling its promise by providing substantial relief to state employees, pensioners, and millions of teachers.

Banerjee shared the news via a post on the social media platform X, revealing that the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears under ROPA 2009 will now be disbursed to employees and pensioners. She confirmed that these payments will commence in March 2026.

According to the Chief Minister, this decision will benefit not only state government employees and pensioners but also a large number of teachers and non-teaching staff in educational institutions. Additionally, employees and pensioners from grant-in-aid institutions such as panchayats and municipalities will also be eligible for this scheme.

She emphasized that her ‘Maa-Mati-Manush’ government has honored its commitment to employees, ensuring they receive the long-awaited DA arrears.

Banerjee noted that detailed information regarding the payment process and regulations will be provided in official notifications released by the state’s finance department. These notifications will outline a phased approach to disbursing payments to employees and pensioners. This decision is expected to offer financial relief to millions, improving their economic situation significantly.

The ‘West Bengal Services (Revision of Pay and Allowances) Rules 2009,’ commonly known as ROPA 2009, are salary revision rules implemented by the West Bengal government based on the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission. These rules govern the salary structure, increments, and allowances for state government employees, including teachers and non-teaching staff.
