New Delhi, March 15: In response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, Indian educational boards have taken significant action. According to the Indian Embassy in Doha, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has postponed its practical exams scheduled for March-April 2026. This decision comes amid the ongoing Iran-Israel-U.S. conflict and instability in Gulf nations.
NIOS, India’s open school board, conducts examinations not only in India but also in several other countries.
The Indian Embassy in Doha announced on the social media platform X, stating, “Due to the regional situation in the Gulf countries, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has declared that the practical exams scheduled for March-April 2026 have been postponed. New dates will be announced by NIOS in due course.”
Previously, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) also decided to cancel Class 12 board exams in several Middle Eastern countries.
This decision by CBSE affects all schools under its jurisdiction in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. An official circular was issued by the board on Sunday, indicating that the decision was made considering the current circumstances in the region.
The board had assessed the possibility of conducting exams in these countries multiple times. However, based on information received from these countries, requests from local schools, and the prevailing local administration conditions, the decision to cancel the exams was made. Earlier, circulars were issued on March 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, 2026, regarding the postponement of some exams. Now, all exams have been officially canceled.
According to the latest decision by the CBSE board, all Class 12 board exams scheduled between March 16 and April 10, 2026, for students in these countries have been completely canceled.
