Mallikarjun Kharge Honors Rabindranath Tagores Progressive Ideals on His Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, May 9: On the birth anniversary of the great poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the party paid tribute to him. Kharge recalled Tagore’s humanitarian and progressive views, emphasizing their continued relevance today.

Kharge shared a famous quote from Tagore on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Nothing is worse than one section of society trying to forcibly suppress the opinions of another against their will.”

While paying homage to Gurudev, Kharge described Tagore as a visionary humanitarian, a great poet, philosopher, and social reformer. He noted that Tagore’s words provided India with its national anthem and taught generations the language of freedom, respect, and compassion.

Kharge remarked that Tagore’s progressive thinking and timeless art continue to illuminate minds and inspire humanity.

The Congress party also paid its respects on its official ‘X’ handle, stating that Tagore gave a new identity to the soul of India through his thoughts, literature, and message of humanity. The party affirmed that his literature, patriotism, and dedication to education will always inspire the citizens of the country.

It is noteworthy that Tagore Jayanti, also known as ‘Pochishe Boishakh’, is celebrated annually on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Baishakh. This year, it is being observed on May 9 in West Bengal.

Born in May 1861 at the famous Jorasanko Thakur Bari in Kolkata, Rabindranath Tagore is regarded as one of the greatest figures in Indian literature and culture. He was a poet, novelist, playwright, philosopher, and songwriter. In 1913, he became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. He composed both the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.

Cultural programs, poetry readings, dance dramas, and Rabindra Sangeet performances are being organized across the country, including West Bengal, to celebrate Tagore Jayanti.
