Patna, March 9: In a significant breakthrough, the Nalanda police have successfully solved a major theft case involving ₹7.3 million that occurred in the Bhainsasur neighborhood on February 26. Within just ten days, authorities apprehended the notorious thief Aditya Kumar, also known as Chikara, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the crime. A total of eight individuals connected to the gang have been arrested, including two jewelers who purchased and melted the stolen jewelry, as well as the main suspect’s mother and sister.
During a press conference on Monday, Nalanda SP Bharat Soni provided details about the incident. He explained that the theft took place at the home of Avinash Kumar, where thieves broke in, stealing gold and silver jewelry, cash, and other valuables. Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Laheri police station under case number 85/2026. The police swiftly initiated an investigation, utilizing technical evidence and intelligence information.
The investigation revealed that the mastermind of the theft, 25-year-old Aditya Kumar, resides in the Banoulia area of Bihar. Chikara has seven previous theft cases registered against him at Laheri, Asthawan, and Sohsarai police stations. After relentless pursuit, police arrested Chikara and his accomplice Vipendra Kumar on March 8 from a rented house near the Patna City bypass.
Following Chikara’s lead, police took further action and arrested two jewelers from Patna City, Rajat Khatri and Kapil Kumar, who were involved in buying and melting the stolen jewelry. Rajat Khatri has previously served two prison sentences. Additionally, the main suspect’s mother, Savita Devi, and sister, Varsha Kumari, were also found to be complicit in the conspiracy, along with two others, Rohit Sharma and Roshan Kumar.
The police achieved significant success during the raids, seizing over ₹23.39 lakh in cash, 132.68 grams of gold (including melted jewelry), a KTM motorcycle without a number plate (with worn engine and chassis numbers), and two screwdrivers used to break into a Godrej cupboard.
SP Bharat Soni stated that this gang had been active for a long time. Under the new Indian National Security Code (BNSS) Section 107, the process for confiscating their illegally acquired assets will commence. The police will approach the court to initiate asset seizure proceedings. The SP praised the police team for their success and assured that such actions will continue to curb criminal activities.
