Major Police Operation in New Delhi: Chain Gang Member Arrested with Illegal Weapons

New Delhi, April 3: The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the Eastern District Police in New Delhi has successfully apprehended an individual armed with illegal weapons, who was reportedly planning a significant crime. Police had received credible intelligence about the suspect’s activities, allowing them to act swiftly and prevent a potential incident. The arrest led to the recovery of a country-made pistol and two cartridges.

In light of the recent surge in criminal activity, the AATS had been placed on high alert, particularly focusing on individuals possessing illegal firearms and those linked to organized crime. A dedicated team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Pawan Yadav, with oversight from ACP Operations Pawan Kumar. The team, which included Sub-Inspector Sandeep, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Satyaveer, Deepak Tyagi, Munendra, and Head Constables Krishna and Sandeep, had been actively gathering intelligence and monitoring the area.

The police received information regarding a suspicious individual connected to the Chain Gang wandering in the locality, armed with illegal weapons. Acting on this tip-off, the police set up a trap and successfully apprehended the suspect. During the search, a country-made pistol and two cartridges were discovered. Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to being an active member of the Chain Gang, providing various forms of assistance to other gang members.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had ties to a notorious robber named Shahzad, who has been involved in several recent robbery incidents in Delhi. Shahzad was previously arrested by the Shahdara District Police on March 22, 2026, and is currently in police custody. The arrested individual, Salman Qureshi, has also been an accomplice of Shahzad in a theft case.

Qureshi disclosed that he was planning to rob someone at gunpoint in the area, but the police’s prompt action thwarted his plan. A case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the New Ashok Nagar police station, and further investigations are underway. Authorities are now working to determine the source of the weapon and the network behind it.

Salman Qureshi, 34, is a resident of the New Seelampur area and has a criminal history involving six previous cases, including theft and violations of the Arms Act.
