Amritsar, March 6: Punjab Police have uncovered a significant illegal arms trafficking network operating from neighboring Pakistan. The Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested five suspects and a minor in connection with this cross-border gang.
Authorities seized five advanced pistols, including Glock (9 mm), PX5 (.30 bore), Taurus (9 mm), and Gretta (9 mm) manufactured in Pakistan, along with another .30 bore pistol. Additionally, 34 live cartridges and a sharp weapon were confiscated.
According to the Punjab DGP, initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with arms traffickers based in Pakistan through social media. They were secretly transporting weapons across the border for distribution in various regions.
An FIR has been registered against the arrested suspects under the Arms Act at the Makbulpur Police Station in Amritsar. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to trace all connections and dismantle the entire network. The Punjab DGP stated that the police are committed to taking continuous action against illegal arms trafficking and organized crime.
Previously, on February 28, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police had exposed two organized modules involved in drug and illegal arms trafficking across the border. In that operation, ten individuals were arrested, and authorities seized 5.438 kg of heroin, three high-end pistols (including a Glock 9 mm, a Zigana 9 mm, and a .32 bore), 34 live cartridges, and 4,500 rupees in cash.
Initial investigations indicated that these suspects were also in contact with Pakistan-based traffickers via social media. Heroin and illegal arms were being smuggled into India and distributed through a precise network across different areas.
