Amritsar, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has successfully dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking operation, leading to the arrest of three suspects. Authorities reported the seizure of 17 kilograms of heroin from the accused.
According to information shared by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, initial investigations suggest that the arrested individuals had connections with drug traffickers operating across the border. Police suspect that these individuals were part of a network responsible for obtaining heroin from outside India and distributing it within Punjab and other regions.
The Counter Intelligence team acted on specific intelligence, resulting in the apprehension of the three suspects. During the search, officers recovered the substantial amount of heroin. Investigators are now working to trace the source of the narcotics and uncover details about its distribution.
Authorities are interrogating the suspects to identify both forward and backward links within the trafficking network. Efforts are underway to determine who facilitated the delivery of the heroin across the border and to whom it was intended to be delivered.
An FIR has been lodged at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar regarding the case. Investigations are also focusing on the roles of other individuals who may be implicated.
Police officials indicated that further information gathered from the suspects could lead to the identification of additional suspects connected to the network. If substantial evidence is found, further action against other involved parties may follow.
The Punjab police have reiterated their commitment to monitoring cross-border drug trafficking closely. They plan to continue their operations against drug trafficking and associated organized crime networks. As the investigation progresses, more arrests and seizures are possible.
