Ranchi, March 26: In a significant operation against narcotics, police in Jharkhand’s Khunti district achieved a major breakthrough for the second consecutive day. Authorities conducted a raid in the Arki police station area, uncovering a large quantity of illegal opium (raw material used for making opium) and arresting two suspects.
The operation was initiated based on a tip-off received by Superintendent of Police Manish Toppo. The information indicated that a substantial amount of opium was hidden in the homes of Ankit Hajam and Lalu Hajam in the Baboo Toli area of village Naudhi. After verifying the information, a raid team was formed under the leadership of Station Officer Praveen Kumar Tiwari. The police team arrived at the location around 1 PM on Thursday, cordoned off the house, and began their search.
During the operation, a young man identified himself as Ankit Hajam, also known as Saju Thakur. Upon questioning, he admitted to being involved in the illegal opium trade along with his brother Lalu Hajam. Following his lead, police recovered a total of 330.21 kilograms of opium stored in 21 sacks, with an estimated value of approximately ₹49.53 lakh. Subsequently, police arrested the second suspect, Lalu Hajam.
A case has been registered at the Arki police station under various sections of the NDPS Act of 1985, with case number 07/26. The operation involved the efforts of Station Officer Praveen Kumar Tiwari, Sub-Inspector Manish Kumar, Kundan Kumar, and armed personnel from the Arki police station.
Just a day earlier, on March 25, police in the Jarigad police station area seized 39.79 kilograms of opium and 6.320 kilograms of raw opium, valued at around ₹36 lakh. Four suspects—Santosh Aind, Jeevan Jashman Aind (alias Lebre), Mahadev Tuti (alias Manish), and Jatha Sanga (alias Muktra Sanga)—were arrested and sent to jail in that case.
