
Daund, March 29: In a significant operation, police in Daund, Maharashtra, seized approximately eight kilograms of cannabis. This action took place in the Khambgaon area under the jurisdiction of the Yavat police station. One individual has been arrested, while another suspect remains at large.
Authorities received credible information regarding the illegal storage and sale of cannabis near a water tank in Khambgaon. Following this tip-off, Inspector Narayan Deshmukh led a team comprising Sub-Inspector Vijay Kolhe, Akshay More, and the anti-narcotics unit from the Kolhapur region to conduct a raid. During the operation, 23-year-old Akash Ashok Mohite, a resident of Khambgaon, was taken into custody.
Upon searching the premises, police recovered over eight kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately ₹4,87,900, which was seized in the presence of witnesses.
During the investigation, the accused revealed that the cannabis belonged to Sagar Uttam Chavan, also a resident of Khambgaon, and was stored for sale at his request. Based on this information, both suspects are facing charges under the NDPS Act.
Akash Mohite has been remanded to police custody until March 31, while efforts to locate the absconding suspect, Sagar Chavan, are ongoing. Sub-Inspector Vijay Kolhe is leading the further investigation into the case.
