Major Decision in Karnprayag Case: Investigations Transferred to Haridwar

Dehradun, June 22: In a significant development concerning the Karnprayag case in Uttarakhand, police have decided to transfer the investigations of both cases to Haridwar. This decision follows a violent incident on June 16 between Sikh pilgrims and local residents in Karnprayag, located in the Chamoli district, which led to a complaint being registered against the Sikh pilgrims at the Karnprayag police station.

To ensure an impartial investigation into the Karnprayag incident, critical decisions were made at the police headquarters based on the recommendation of the IG of the Garhwal range. The investigations of both cases have now been assigned to the Haridwar district police. Additionally, allegations related to police conduct and behavior will be investigated by a senior IPS officer.

It is important to note that an FIR was filed on June 20 at the Karnprayag police station against unidentified individuals accused of assaulting the father of an injured Sikh pilgrim. To guarantee a fair, transparent, and independent inquiry into both registered cases, the investigations have been moved from Chamoli district to Haridwar, where they will be conducted under the close supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar.

Furthermore, the investigation into the alleged misconduct and behavior of local police has been assigned to DIG Yashwant Singh, who has been instructed to submit a report within two weeks.

Regarding the case, Rajiv Swaroop, Inspector General of Police for the Garhwal region, stated that the Uttarakhand police fully respect the religious sentiments of all communities and are committed to conducting fair, transparent, and just actions in every case.

He emphasized that the Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage is a deeply sacred journey connected to the faith of the pilgrims, which is being conducted safely, peacefully, and systematically through the coordinated efforts of the Uttarakhand police and administration. Ensuring the safety, respect, and convenience of every pilgrim during this journey is the police’s top priority.
