Lucknow, June 23: A devastating fire at a coaching center in Aliganj, Lucknow, has led to the tragic loss of lives, with the deceased being transported to King George’s Medical University (KGMU). The trauma center is currently treating the injured, while several leaders are visiting to meet the victims. KGMU has provided an update on the situation following the incident.
KGMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand stated, “I am aware of every moment. The fire incident occurred in Aliganj, and we will do everything possible to save lives. However, for those who have passed away, a post-mortem will be necessary. Our primary focus is on saving those who can be treated.”
Dr. Prem Raj Singh from KGMU reported, “Fifteen children were brought here deceased, while eight injured children are in stable condition. One child who jumped from above is suspected to have a spinal fracture, and doctors are examining him. A girl has also sustained an injury to her leg. So far, it appears that the children died due to asphyxiation.”
KGMU spokesperson K.K. Singh added, “Five students have been discharged as their injuries were not severe. Two students with more serious injuries are still receiving treatment. One girl named Lavpreet has an injury to her left thigh, but an X-ray showed no fractures. Her family is coming from Delhi, and she may also be discharged or referred elsewhere. The other boy, Jayant, whose video went viral, jumped from an upper floor. Fortunately, he survived, but he fell onto a metal rod, injuring his lower back and spinal cord, which has left his lower body numb. A CT scan conducted at night revealed nerve and spinal cord injuries and swelling. An MRI is needed to determine whether surgery or medication will be required for further treatment.”
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh visited the KGMU trauma center to meet the victims of the coaching center fire. He expressed, “This is a very tragic and painful incident in which 15 lives have been lost. I pray to God to grant peace to the souls of the deceased and strength to their families to bear this immense loss. There are also reports that the fire brigade did not arrive on time. An investigation should be conducted to determine why they were delayed.”
