Madhya Pradesh Congress Calls for Relief Package Amid Low Rainfall Impacting Farmers

Bhopal, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party in Madhya Pradesh is urging the state government to announce a relief package for farmers affected by below-average rainfall. Jitu Patwari, the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, highlighted the significant impact of insufficient rainfall on crops in districts like Indore and Ujjain.

In a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Patwari called for a scientific survey of all areas experiencing low rainfall. He emphasized the need for immediate financial assistance for farmers in these regions. According to him, this year’s rainfall has been highly irregular, leading to concerns about the moisture levels in soil, the kharif crop, water resources, and the upcoming rabi crop.

Patwari urged the government to assess the current situation of rainfall, crop conditions, soil moisture, and groundwater levels to declare drought-affected areas. He proposed that a detailed survey of crop damage be conducted to determine compensation on a per-hectare basis. Additionally, he stressed the importance of promptly settling crop insurance claims for affected farmers and postponing the recovery of short-term agricultural loans, along with providing relief on interest rates.

Furthermore, he requested special assistance for impacted farmers regarding seeds, fertilizers, and other essential agricultural inputs for the upcoming rabi season. Patwari also called for alternative arrangements for drinking water in affected villages and interim relief payments until the final survey is completed.

He stated that this issue transcends mere rainfall statistics; it concerns the livelihoods of millions of farmers and the future of agriculture in the state. Patwari urged the government to focus on the real conditions faced by farmers rather than hiding behind bureaucratic averages and to ensure timely relief measures are implemented.
