Bommai Accuses Rahul and Priyanka of Distracting from Congresss Internal Issues

Dharwad, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has accused Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of attempting to divert attention from the party’s internal discord by protesting against the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. Speaking to reporters in Dharwad on Tuesday, Bommai asserted that these protests would not benefit Congress.

He alleged that the Gandhi siblings were raising concerns over the SIR to evade criticism and suppress potential dissent within the party. Bommai referenced recent protests led by Rahul and Priyanka outside the All India Radio building, where they demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating that Congress was trying to shift focus from its own shortcomings.

According to Bommai, rather than addressing internal issues related to party organization, Congress is making the controversy over voter list changes a political issue. He further claimed that the party leadership was using such campaigns to stifle dissent within their ranks.

The BJP leader emphasized that the resolution of the SIR-related controversy would ultimately depend on facts and legal processes. He expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved through judicial proceedings, with the Supreme Court expected to make the final decision.

Bommai also criticized the Congress leadership for targeting the Election Commission regarding the SIR process. He argued that the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner‘s resignation was part of a larger political strategy by Congress. He reiterated that the issue should be handled through constitutional and legal means.
