Major Blow to Naxalite Movement: 256 Maoists Killed, 1562 Surrender by 2025

Raipur, March 24: Security forces have dealt a significant blow to the Naxalite movement in 2025. Official data reveals substantial progress in the fight against left-wing extremism in central and eastern India.

The data indicates that the Maoist organization is rapidly weakening, marked by heavy losses in encounters, mass surrenders, and the elimination of key leadership figures.

According to new statistics from police and security personnel, there were 99 intense encounters with Naxalites throughout the year. During these operations, 256 Naxalites were killed, while 884 were arrested.

A noteworthy achievement that boosted the morale of the forces was the record surrender of 1,562 Naxalites. Security teams also recovered 645 weapons and 875 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from militants. However, these operations came at a cost; 23 personnel lost their lives in the line of duty. In retaliation, Naxalites killed 46 innocent civilians over the year.

A significant blow to the illegal CPI (Maoist) was the elimination of over twenty top Naxal leaders in the past year and a half, severely disrupting the group’s command structure.

Key casualties included Mardavi Hidma and Mardavi Hidma alias Santosh, both Central Committee members; Basavaraju, the General Secretary and Politburo member; Jayaram alias Chalapati; Vivek alias Prayag Manjhi; Narasimha Chalam alias Gautam; Gajerala Ravi; Modhem Balakrishna; Sahadev Soren alias Prayag; Raju alias Katta Ramchandra Reddy; Kosa alias Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy; and Ganesh alias Chamaru Dada—all Central Committee members.

Several members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) were also killed, including Sudhir alias Sudhakar, Kuhadami Jagdish, Renuka alias Bhanu, Jangu Naveen alias Madhu, Mundugula Rao, Randhir, Niti alias Nirmala, Rupesh, Joganna, Dasaru, and Raju. Other notable losses included Machheriyal DVC Secretary and Renuka, a member of the Central Regional Bureau press team.

These figures indicate a rapid decline in the operational capacity and ideological grip of the Naxalite organization. Hundreds of cadres have either been killed, arrested, or chosen to surrender, leading to the disintegration of their top decision-making body. The once-strong Maoist network now appears to be on the back foot.

Officials view the 2025 campaign as a turning point in India’s long struggle against Naxalism, bringing new hope for peace and development in the country’s most affected tribal areas.
