New Delhi, March 21: In preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant police presence has been established in the Uttam Nagar area of New Delhi, with approximately 150 to 200 officers deployed on Saturday to maintain law and order.
Concerns about potential tensions were already present, but the situation remained fully under control, primarily due to the strong and visible police presence at sensitive locations in the area.
Scenes during the morning prayers of Eid reflected an atmosphere of peace and cooperation, as residents gathered to celebrate the occasion harmoniously.
Officials reported that law enforcement agencies effectively ensured order on the ground, allowing religious rituals to proceed smoothly without any disruptions or security concerns.
To maintain this stability, a large contingent of police officers, numbering between 150 and 200, has been stationed outside the Uttam Nagar police station.
These officers are working in shifts to ensure round-the-clock surveillance and maintain continuous security in the area.
Authorities stated that this proactive approach aims to prevent any unpleasant incidents and ensure that peace prevails throughout the day, allowing citizens to celebrate without fear.
This tightening of security measures follows a directive from the Delhi High Court, which instructed the Uttam Nagar police and local administration to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and ensure a safe environment during the Eid celebrations.
Tensions in the area had escalated following an incident on Holi, when a minor altercation turned into a violent clash, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar.
According to police officials, the dispute began when a water balloon thrown by a child accidentally burst near a woman. Although the child’s family promptly apologized, the situation deteriorated after a verbal altercation between the two communities.
Investigators noted that the woman later called her relatives to the scene, leading to a violent confrontation involving members from both families belonging to different communities.
