
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday stated that the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a strong step towards a developed India.
He claimed that Maharashtra will receive Rs 98,306 crore from central taxes. In addition, the initial estimates of the budget allocate Rs 12,355 crore for various projects in the state.
Accordingly, Maharashtra is expected to receive close to Rs 1 lakh crore in total.
The Chief Minister informed reporters that the Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Hyderabad high-speed corridors will significantly boost the state’s GDP.
He added that the Pune-Hyderabad corridor will greatly benefit the Marathwada and Western Maharashtra regions.
Fadnavis also mentioned that Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune Metropolitan Region, and Nagpur Metropolitan Region development centers will receive Rs 5,000 crore over five years to support their growth.
Out of the Rs 12,355 crore allocated, specific projects include Rs 378.38 crore for the Maharashtra rural road project, Rs 167.28 crore for the agriculture business project, Rs 283.77 crore for economic clusters promoting inclusive development, and Rs 385.78 crore for tertiary care and medical education development.
Further allocations include Rs 207.10 crore for solar-powered lift irrigation schemes, Rs 646.24 crore for agriculture and rural transformation projects, Rs 313.65 crore for skill and practical knowledge development in human resources, and Rs 240.90 crore for institutional capacity building in districts.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor is set to receive Rs 6,103 crore, Mumbai Metro Rs 1,702 crore, MUTP 3 Rs 462 crore, green mobility in MMR Rs 155.32 crore, and Intelligent Transport System on the Prosperity Highway Rs 680.79 crore.
He clarified that these figures are preliminary estimates focused mainly on Mumbai and Pune.
According to the Chief Minister, adequate provisions have been made for agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and irrigation.
He highlighted the importance of creating separate malls and industrial opportunities for women, following the success of the Lakhpati Didi scheme.
