Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Maharashtra has made significant progress in the ongoing investigation into the drug inspector recruitment exam paper leak. On October 23, 2026, authorities announced the arrest of two more suspects, raising the total number of arrests in this case to 13.
The investigation revealed that certain individuals compromised the confidentiality of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams. Allegations suggest that these suspects abused their official positions to illegally sell copies of the exam papers for financial gain.
The MPSC had conducted the exam for 154 drug inspector positions under advertisement number 116/2025 on March 22, 2026, across six examination centers in the state. The case was registered on August 25, 2026, following a complaint by MPSC’s legal representative, Mangesh Desai. The complaint was filed at the Kaf Parade police station under crime number 0195/2026.
Charges against the accused include violations of various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Maharashtra Competitive Examinations (Unfair Means) Act, 2024, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Previously, the SIT had arrested 11 suspects, including MPSC officials, employees, intermediaries, and candidates who purchased the leaked papers. Notable arrests include Abhijit Landwe, an undersecretary, and several others involved in the scheme.
During the investigation, the SIT discovered that an intermediary named Mayur Thakre played a role in delivering the exam papers to candidates. He was apprehended on October 12, 2026. Additionally, it was revealed that MPSC assistant officer Rohit Kolatkar had obtained exam papers from accused Abhijit Landwe. Kolatkar was arrested on October 23, 2026, in Navi Mumbai.
The SIT continues to investigate the entire paper leak network, including financial transactions and the involvement of other individuals. Officials have indicated that further arrests may occur as the investigation unfolds.
