Ram Gopal Varma Compares Tiger Shroff Shooting Suspects to Film Casting Choices

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma comments on the Tiger Shroff shooting, likening suspects to poor casting choices in movies.

Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has stirred conversation with his recent comments regarding the shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff. He took to the social media platform X to draw a comparison between the alleged shooters and the casting of criminals in films.

Varma remarked that the individuals accused of firing at Shroff would not even land roles as minor characters in a movie, such as bringing tea for villains. He stated, “The shooters who attacked Tiger Shroff look like they wouldn’t even get cast as boys delivering tea at a villain’s hideout.”

He emphasized the stark difference between real-life criminals and their portrayals in films, referencing infamous underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. Varma suggested that if a film were made about Ibrahim, the casting director might struggle to find someone who resembles him for the role.

“The casting director in real life is often more bizarre than those in the film industry,” he added, tagging casting director Mukesh Chhabra in his post.

Social media users reacted to Varma’s comments with mixed opinions. Some agreed with his perspective, while others offered differing views. One user pointed out that casting directors often select actors based on marketability, not necessarily realism. Another user suggested that after years in the industry, Varma should consider playing a role himself, perhaps as Dawood Ibrahim.

Earlier, Varma had described the shooting incident as unusual. He noted that typically, such events are linked to extortion, contract killings, or personal vendettas. However, he observed that in this case, the motives seemed to stem from “ego and showmanship.”

On October 19, Shroff’s car was shot at near a football club in Juhu, Mumbai. Fortunately, Shroff was unharmed, but his driver and an auto-rickshaw driver sustained injuries in the attack.
