Residents of Ghazipur, Delhi, Demand Action as Pollution Levels Soar
Residents in Ghazipur express frustration over rising pollution levels and demand urgent action from authorities.

Ghazipur, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Residents in Ghazipur, a locality in East Delhi, are voicing their concerns about worsening pollution despite the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on October 21. The air quality index (AQI) in several areas has exceeded 300, prompting local inhabitants to call for immediate government intervention.
Manish Kumar, a local resident, stated that if officials executed their responsibilities effectively, pollution levels could be significantly reduced. He criticized ongoing construction projects that have left roads dug up, contributing to dust and debris in the air. Despite numerous complaints, he feels that no substantial action has been taken to resolve these issues, attributing the ongoing problems to a lack of accountability among authorities and local leaders.
Another resident, Santaram Pradhan, highlighted the long-standing pollution issues in Ghazipur, where waste from across Delhi is dumped. He lamented that promises to cover open drains and repair roads remain unfulfilled, despite multiple administrations having come and gone without addressing the community’s needs. He emphasized the plight of the local population, which includes many impoverished families.
Mohammad Bilal Ansari pointed out that pollution in Ghazipur persists year-round. He noted that the various phases of GRAP have failed to alleviate the struggles faced by residents, primarily due to the towering garbage mounds that release foul odors and smoke.
Murtaza, another local, mentioned that the pollution problem has plagued nearby colonies and surrounding areas for an extended period. He described the difficulty of breathing for many residents, including children, due to the toxic environment.
As the community continues to grapple with these challenges, residents remain hopeful for decisive action from authorities to improve their living conditions.
