Central Railway Prepares for Diwali and Chhath Puja with 1,000 Special Trains
Central Railway announces 1,000 special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja to accommodate increased passenger demand.
Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : In anticipation of the surge in passengers during Diwali and Chhath Puja, Central Railway has implemented extensive preparations. To ensure travelers can reach their homes and destinations smoothly, the railway will operate approximately 1,000 special trains in addition to its regular services. Officials indicated that more special trains could be introduced if necessary.
Swapanil Neela, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway in Maharashtra, confirmed that over 1,000 special trains are arranged for the festive season. He mentioned that this year, the number of trains being operated exceeds last year’s figures, with 600 services from the previous year being made regular.
During the festive period, nearly 998 special trains will be running, bringing the total number of services to around 1,600 when combined with the regular trains. The special trains will operate from October 1 to November 30, providing approximately 925,000 seats for passengers. Reservations have already been made for about 85% of these seats, though some remain available.
Railway officials are also considering additional special trains based on passenger demand. Neela expressed confidence that these arrangements will alleviate travel challenges for the large number of passengers during the festivals.
Special trains will connect various regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Rajasthan, facilitating travel for passengers heading to different states.
To manage the expected crowd at railway stations, measures are in place. Major stations such as Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Pune, and Nagpur will feature holding areas for passengers. These areas aim to organize crowds and help travelers reach their trains safely.
