Chennai, June 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay stated in the assembly on Tuesday that his government will robustly defend the rights and interests of the state while maintaining constructive and positive relations with the central government. He emphasized that the development and welfare of the people are his government’s top priorities.
Responding to a discussion on the Governor’s address, Chief Minister Vijay asserted that the Tamilaga Vettir Kazhagam (TVK) government is committed to providing transparent, corruption-free, and citizen-centric administration. He mentioned that his administration is consistently progressing towards good governance, accountability, and the welfare of all societal segments, especially women.
“Our goal is to establish transparent governance and ensure the safety and welfare of women. We are moving towards these objectives in a phased manner,” he stated.
During his address, the Chief Minister also launched a sharp critique against the previous DMK government. Without naming any party, he remarked that those accusing his government of inexperience are themselves responsible for financial mismanagement, corruption, and misuse of public resources. Vijay emphasized that his government knows how to work for the people without misusing public funds.
He assured that the TVK government will ensure transparency in public tenders, protect government revenue, and create job opportunities through fair and accountable processes. The Chief Minister also reiterated his commitment to curbing the growing menace of substance abuse and strengthening accountability across all departments.
Clarifying his government’s stance on center-state relations, Vijay stated that his party’s ideology promotes “federalism at the center and autonomy for states.” He acknowledged that while the TVK ideologically opposes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), it does not mean that there should be confrontation with the central government on every issue.
“We are ideologically opposed to the BJP. However, this does not imply that we will clash with the central government on every matter. The development of Tamil Nadu is our priority, and we will never compromise on state rights or our policy principles,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister claimed that his government has consistently safeguarded Tamil Nadu’s interests concerning federal rights and resource allocation. He also stated that his government is not part of any political faction, with its loyalty solely to the public. He identified secularism and social justice as guiding principles for his administration.
Vijay concluded, “Those attempting to spread confusion regarding state rights issues will ultimately be rejected by the public. We are not part of any team. We are solely for the people.”
