Nashik, May 31: The Maharashtra government has made a significant decision regarding the administrative rights and responsibilities of three major religious trusts in Nashik district. An extraordinary gazette issued by the state’s Law and Justice Department on May 29, 2026, has transferred certain management rights related to these trusts from the Charity Commissioner to designated officials.
According to the notifications released by the government, this decision was made under Section 8(2) of the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950. Some administrative and statutory powers previously exercised by the Charity Commissioner have now been delegated to various charity officials in Nashik.
As per the information published in the gazette, all rights and duties of the Charity Commissioner concerning the renowned Shri Kalaram Temple Institution in Panchavati will now be handled by the Joint Charity Commissioner-2, Nashik, under Section 50B(b) of the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act. This decision is believed to enhance the efficiency and smooth functioning of the temple institution’s administrative operations.
Similarly, for the Shri Saptashrungi Nivasini Devi Trust, a major pilgrimage center located in the Kalwan taluka of Nashik district, the powers of the Charity Commissioner have been assigned to the Senior Charity Assistant Commissioner, Nashik. All administrative and statutory tasks related to this trust will now be executed through this official.
Additionally, significant changes have been made concerning the Shri Trimbakeshwar Institution Trust, which operates one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in the country. According to the notification, the rights and duties of the Charity Commissioner associated with this trust will now be managed by the Senior Joint Charity Commissioner, Nashik.
The Maharashtra government believes that this decentralization of powers will expedite the administrative processes of the trusts and make decision-making more effective. It is expected to enhance transparency and accountability in the operations, financial management, and other administrative matters of religious institutions.
