Kharge Criticizes BJP Over Haldwani Purification Incident, Questions Silence of PM and Home Minister

New Delhi, September 3: The political atmosphere has intensified following the purification incident at Ramleela Maidan after a Dalit rally in Haldwani. Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president, held a press conference on Thursday, sharply criticizing the BJP government. He stated that despite 25 days passing, the government has taken no action regarding this shameful incident.

Kharge remarked, “I wrote a letter to JP Nadda, the leader of the Rajya Sabha, reminding him that no action has been taken on the disgraceful incident in Haldwani even after 25 days. In contrast, action was taken against Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, simply for raising his voice during a press conference about the purification incident.”

He added, “This action is quite strange. Rahul Gandhi has consistently voiced concerns for every section of society, but the BJP cannot intimidate our party through such tactics. This incident is not just about me; it is connected to the Dalit community in the country. The BJP makes grand statements but attempts to suppress those who raise the voices of the victims. My only message to the BJP is to stop dividing the people of this country based on caste and religion; it is not good for the nation.”

Kharge emphasized, “The Haldwani incident is a direct case of untouchability. The purification in Haldwani sends a message to Dalits that we are superior and they are of an inferior caste, which justifies the purification. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar led the Mahad movement years ago because Dalits were denied access to water and its use due to caste discrimination. In response, Dr. Ambedkar included Article 17 in the Constitution to eradicate untouchability.”

He questioned, “When such a purification incident occurs right under the BJP government’s nose and no action is taken, one can only imagine what happens in the rest of the country. Kharge also targeted the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, asking, ‘Why are both silent on the disgraceful purification incident in Haldwani? Whether it’s the ‘donation theft’ at the Ram Temple or atrocities against Dalits and women, they never speak out on any unfortunate events.’”
