New Delhi, September 3: It is often said that dreaming is easy, but turning those dreams into reality is a challenging task. For some, this journey becomes even more difficult when faced with physical disabilities. This is the story of 17-year-old J. Santosh.
J. Santosh has secured admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, a feat that speaks volumes about his determination. He has been battling 90 percent spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and cerebral palsy since birth. Despite these challenges, he has carved a path to his goal with unwavering resolve.
IIT Madras announced on its social media platform ‘X’ that J. Santosh has been accepted into its four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) program in Data Science and Applications. After missing a visit to the institute last year, Santosh successfully qualified on his second attempt.
The institute further shared that J. Santosh comes from a humble background, with his father working as an auto driver. He learned about this program through the NGO ‘Tamil Nadu Volunteers.’ Subsequently, he chose a course that could largely be pursued from home. Through the ‘IIT Madras for All’ initiative, he will receive initial support from ‘Tamil Nadu Volunteers,’ which includes training in artificial intelligence (AI). They will also cover his tuition fees for the first year.
IIT Madras revealed that J. Santosh aims to complete his degree and build a successful career in the IT sector. By securing a place at IIT Madras, he has demonstrated that no matter how difficult the path to achieving one’s goals may be, a strong will can lead to success.
