Bhopal, March 2: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh announced on his X handle that the state will hold its first Agriculture Cabinet meeting in Barwani district on Monday. This initiative is part of the Farmer Welfare Year 2026 and marks a significant step forward.
The meeting aims to enhance farmers’ prosperity, self-reliance, and overall village development through new policies and collaborative efforts. In his post, CM Yadav emphasized that 2026 will be dedicated to “farmers’ welfare,” focusing on necessary actions and innovations to ensure their well-being and independence. The first Agriculture Cabinet will convene in Barwani to discuss critical issues related to state development and public welfare, including farmers’ interests, and make essential decisions.
This unique cabinet format brings together 17 departments, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Cooperatives, and Industry, to create a comprehensive, year-round roadmap. The focus is on the entire agricultural value chain, from production and processing to marketing, job creation, and entrepreneurship.
By holding the session in a tribal-dominated area like Barwani, the government aims to decentralize decision-making, bring policies closer to grassroots farmers, and address local challenges. Barwani, known for its high yields of bananas, cotton, and other crops, is primarily a tribal region where agriculture is the main source of livelihood. The choice of location aligns with the state’s commitment to inclusive development, empowering tribal farmers, and integrating traditional methods with modern technologies.
The cabinet meeting will take place in Nagalwadi village, coinciding with the festive atmosphere of Holi and the tribal festival Bhagoriya, adding to its cultural significance.
Officials have indicated that farmers can expect a Holi bonanza, which may include announcements regarding bonuses, subsidies, irrigation enhancements, promotion of natural farming, price support, and market linkages.
This initiative follows CM Yadav’s previous announcements, which designated 2026 as the year of agriculture after focusing on industry and employment in 2025. It revives the concept of a dedicated agriculture cabinet but innovatively establishes it outside the state capital in tribal areas.
Government sources revealed that this approach is expected to accelerate plans for dairy, solar irrigation, horticulture, and farmer-producer organizations, aiming to boost agricultural growth and reduce challenges.
