Madhya Pradesh to Connect 1 Million Farmers Through Cooperatives: Minister Vishwas Sarang

Bhopal, March 13: Madhya Pradesh is set to launch a campaign aimed at connecting farmers with primary agricultural credit cooperatives (PACS). State Cooperation Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang announced that this initiative will engage 1 million farmers in the cooperative sector.

During a meeting with senior officials from the Cooperation Department, Sarang reviewed current activities and future plans. He directed the formation of a special committee to strengthen PACS and marketing cooperatives. This committee will study the current status of cooperative institutions and provide suggestions to enhance their operations, structure, and effectiveness. A detailed report is expected within 15 days.

Sarang highlighted that the state government is celebrating 2026 as the ‘Year of Agricultural Welfare’, making the role of cooperatives even more crucial. He urged officials to take solid and effective steps to strengthen cooperative institutions, ensuring maximum benefits for farmers.

The minister emphasized the need to develop PACS as a robust unit of the rural economy. To achieve this, a large membership drive will be conducted across the state in April, aiming to connect approximately 1 million farmers with cooperatives.

By integrating more farmers into the cooperative framework, economic activities at the rural level will be invigorated, allowing farmers to access institutional facilities.

Sarang also reviewed the fertilizer distribution system, directing efforts to enhance the distribution process through PACS via cash payments under a double-lock system. This will ensure timely availability of fertilizers for farmers and create a more transparent and organized distribution framework.
