New Delhi, April 4: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated the 47th foundation day of its Project Chetak on Saturday in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
This occasion marked over four decades of dedicated service in strategically important areas of the western region. Launched on this day in 1980, the project has played a crucial role in the development and maintenance of infrastructure in northern parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.
By connecting border areas, it has significantly contributed to national security and regional development. With the motto “Chetak’s Effort, Nation’s Development,” Project Chetak stands as one of BRO’s largest initiatives geographically. It encompasses a road network of over 4,000 kilometers and includes a 214-kilometer “ditch-cum-bund.”
The project supports the armed forces by maintaining key feeder roads leading to the international border. Continuous efforts are underway to upgrade these roads to “National Highway two-lane” standards.
Earlier, on February 15, the BRO’s Project Seva celebrated its 66th foundation day in Dimapur. This project has been providing essential services in strategically and geographically challenging states like Nagaland and Manipur for the past six decades.
Initiated in 1961, Project Seva has been pivotal in developing infrastructure such as roads and bridges in the northeastern region. This has strengthened military preparedness and boosted social and economic development in the area.
Headquartered in Dimapur, Project Seva is one of BRO’s oldest projects. The name “Seva” means “to serve,” reflecting a commitment to service even in challenging conditions. Its emblem, featuring “Crossed Naga Spears,” symbolizes the valor and rich traditions of the Naga tribes.
