
Bhopal, March 9: The Madhya Pradesh Police have confiscated over 7,890 kilograms of opium from the districts of Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Damoh, with an estimated market value exceeding ₹3 crore.
Cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, and legal proceedings are underway.
Police officials reported that they received information about illegal opium cultivation in a field located in Urdamau village, under the jurisdiction of the Garhi Malhara police station in Chhatarpur district. Acting on this tip-off, a police team arrived at the scene and inspected the field, where opium plants were found growing over approximately half an acre.
During the operation, police uprooted and seized the opium plants along with their roots. The total weight of the confiscated crop was around 1,140 kilograms, valued at approximately ₹70 lakh.
In Tikamgarh district, authorities received reports of illegal opium cultivation alongside other crops in Pratapapura village, within the Digoha police station area. Following this information, a police team conducted a raid and discovered opium plants growing among wheat crops.
The police uprooted the opium plants, including their roots, stems, and leaves. Approximately 419.1 kilograms of illegal opium was recovered during this operation, with an estimated market value of over ₹45 lakh.
In Damoh district, police were alerted to illegal opium cultivation in Suhela village, located in the Imaliya outpost area of the Tejgarh police station. Based on this information, a police team inspected the field, where they found opium being secretly cultivated on about two and a half acres of land.
With the assistance of officers and laborers present at the site, police uprooted and seized the entire crop. The total weight of the confiscated opium was approximately 6,331.5 kilograms, with an estimated market value exceeding ₹1.89 crore.
The Madhya Pradesh Police stated that this operation sends a clear message that activities related to the production, storage, transportation, and smuggling of illegal narcotics will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
