Bhopal, July 30: In a significant development for farmers in Madhya Pradesh, the government has announced that it will now purchase 60 percent of moong crop from farmers at the minimum support price, up from the previous 25 percent. This decision follows discussions between the state government and moong-producing farmers.
To address farmers’ concerns, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav formed a ministerial group that met with representatives from various farmers’ organizations late Wednesday. The meeting resulted in several key decisions aimed at benefiting farmers.
Agriculture Minister Andel Singh Kansana stated that the Indian government had set a target of 4.52 lakh metric tons for the procurement of summer moong in Madhya Pradesh this year. Initially, the plan allowed for the procurement of a maximum of 25 percent of the total production under the government scheme.
However, after discussions with farmer representatives, the government has revised its decision. Now, each eligible farmer will have 60 percent of their moong crop procured, particularly in districts like Narmadapuram, Sehore, and Harda, where the yield is approximately 3 quintals per acre. This new policy will take effect immediately.
To further assist farmers, the government has extended the slot booking period by ten days. Farmers can now book slots until August 10 instead of July 30. Additionally, the deadline for procurement has also been pushed from August 10 to August 20.
Regarding the e-token system for fertilizer distribution, Minister Kansana noted that complaints and practical issues led to the suspension of this system. A high-level committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Agricultural Production Commissioner to examine all issues related to the e-token system and provide recommendations to the state government. Necessary improvements will be made based on the committee’s suggestions.
