Madhya Pradesh Government to Establish Literary Award in Memory of Bashir Badr

Bhopal, June 2: In a significant move to honor the legacy of renowned Urdu poet and Padma Shri awardee Bashir Badr, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced the establishment of a literary award in his name. This decision aims to preserve his literary heritage and pass it on to future generations.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the state’s Culture Minister, Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, during a visit to Bashir Badr’s residence in the Idgah Colony of Bhopal. He expressed his condolences to the poet’s family, meeting with his wife, Rahat Badr, and son, Tayyab Badr, while reminiscing about his literary contributions.

Minister Lodhi shared on the social media platform ‘X’ that he paid tribute to the late poet at his home, reflecting on cherished memories and offering comfort to the family. He revealed that after discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the decision to initiate the Bashir Badr Literary Award was finalized.

This proposed award will recognize creators who have made outstanding contributions to Urdu poetry and literature. Its goal is to keep Bashir Badr’s literary legacy alive and introduce Urdu literature to new generations.

During his meeting with the family, Minister Lodhi elaborated on Bashir Badr’s life, struggles, and literary journey. He emphasized that Badr’s poetry was not merely a collection of words but a profound reflection of human emotions, love, feelings, and relationships.

The minister also highlighted several of Badr’s popular ghazals and couplets, noting that he elevated Urdu poetry to new heights. His works continue to resonate with millions of people today.
