Ahmedabad, July 23: The Gujarat BJP staged a protest outside the Congress headquarters, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, following a demonstration by Congress demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue.
Led by Gujarat BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma, the protest saw participation from approximately 200 to 300 BJP workers. Protesters chanted slogans such as “Rahul Gandhi, apologize!” The BJP accused Congress of targeting the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi during their protest on Tuesday.
In anticipation of the BJP’s demonstration, security measures were tightened around the Congress office. To prevent any clashes between BJP and Congress workers, around 2,000 police personnel were deployed.
Several senior police officials, including two Joint Police Commissioners, Sharad Singhal and Neeraj Budgujar, were present to oversee security arrangements. Barricades were set up around Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, ensuring a heavy police presence during the protest.
The BJP’s demonstration followed a Congress sit-in and protest march that occurred earlier that morning. Congress had organized the protest against the alleged NEET paper leak.
Shortly after the Congress march began, police halted the procession, leading to a scuffle between protesters and law enforcement. Some Congress workers climbed onto police vehicles during the altercation. Subsequently, police detained approximately 100 Congress leaders and activists, including State Congress President Amit Chavda and MLA Imran Khedawala, along with several female protesters.
This protest was part of a broader political campaign initiated by Congress leaders, including Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, who demanded the resignation of the Education Minister during a demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Delhi police had detained opposition leaders during the protest but later released them.
