Kolkata, July 23: The West Bengal government is set to establish a police station for the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This proposal received approval during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
After the meeting, the state’s Minister for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Agnimitra Paul, informed the media that the construction of the police station will commence soon.
The NIA’s eastern regional headquarters is located in Salt Lake, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, where all agency operations are currently managed.
Due to the rising number of cases in West Bengal, the workload on the NIA has increased significantly. Consequently, the state cabinet has approved the establishment of a separate NIA police station to address this growing demand.
It has been reported that construction will begin promptly after all necessary government formalities are completed. However, the exact location of the police station has not yet been disclosed and will be announced shortly.
A cabinet member revealed that the NIA is investigating several cases in West Bengal, including those linked to the tenure of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government. Additionally, the agency is initiating new investigations into various other matters.
As a result, the workload is escalating, prompting the cabinet to approve the proposal for the new police station.
During the cabinet meeting this morning, several proposals related to allocating land to the Border Security Force (BSF) near international borders with Bangladesh were also approved.
