Madhya Pradesh Government Faces Criticism Over Privatization of Health Services

Bhopal, June 17: The Madhya Pradesh government is under scrutiny for its decision to privatize health services in a bid to enhance healthcare quality. Leader of the Opposition, Umang Singhar, has raised concerns regarding the government’s move to hand over 18 health centers across three districts to private entities. He accuses the Mohan Yadav-led government of outsourcing essential health services.

The state government aims to address the shortage of doctors in rural and semi-urban areas by operating these community health centers (CHCs) through a public-private partnership model. Singhar has publicly questioned this decision, stating on social media that the BJP government is now attempting to privatize Madhya Pradesh‘s healthcare system.

He highlighted that the government has decided to outsource the management of 18 CHCs in Rewa, Guna, and Dewas to private companies. These firms will handle everything from hiring doctors to treating patients. If this pilot project proves successful, it may expand to include 277 CHCs.

Singhar criticized the BJP government for gradually transferring public health services into private hands instead of strengthening them. He argued that the government’s strategy appears to be: first, refrain from hiring; second, weaken public hospitals; and finally, present privatization as the solution.

He emphasized that rural, poor, tribal, and marginalized communities rely heavily on government hospitals. However, he claims the BJP government is treating healthcare as a business rather than a right. “Today, it’s 18 CHCs, tomorrow it could be 277, and eventually, the entire health system could be privatized. Is this the BJP’s vision for healthcare?” he questioned.

Singhar urged the Chief Minister to prioritize hiring doctors in government hospitals, expanding resources, and ensuring accountability instead of pushing for privatization. The people of the state are demanding healthcare, not contracts.
