Macron Honors 26/11 Victims in Mumbai, Strengthens India-France Ties

Mumbai, February 17: French President Emmanuel Macron is in India for the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026.’ During his visit to Mumbai, he and First Lady Brigitte Macron paid tribute to the victims of the 2008 terrorist attacks on February 17. Following this, a meeting took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Macron.

After honoring the 26/11 victims, Macron took to social media platform X, stating, “At the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, we paid tribute to the victims of the 2008 attacks. For their families and loved ones, and for India, France stands with you. In the face of terrorism, we stand united and resolute.”

Macron also met with Bollywood stars during his visit, sharing photos on social media and noting, “During this time with the legends of Indian cinema. Culture brings us together.”

Prime Minister Modi welcomed Macron with a hug after their meeting. He shared a photo on X, expressing, “It was a pleasure to meet my friend President Macron in Mumbai. He told me he loves this city and enjoyed his morning jog.”

PM Modi further stated on X, “Welcome to India! We look forward to your visit and taking our mutual relations to new heights. I am confident our discussions will strengthen cooperation across various sectors and contribute to global progress. See you in Mumbai and later in Delhi, my dear friend.”

Meanwhile, President Macron is set to participate in the India AI Impact Summit on February 19. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed him at the airport, where Governor Acharya Devvrat was also present.

The Ministry of External Affairs warmly welcomed Macron, stating, “Towards a strong India-France strategic partnership. A warm welcome for President Emmanuel Macron. Governor Acharya Devvrat welcomed him at Mumbai Airport. During this visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with President Macron. Both leaders will launch the India-France Year of Innovation 2026. This visit will further accelerate the vibrant India-France strategic partnership.”
