Srinagar, July 29: Eleven security personnel were injured in two separate road accidents in the Shopian and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the injured is one officer.
Late Monday night, a bunker vehicle carrying CRPF and police personnel skidded off the main road in Wachi, Shopian district. An official reported, “Seven CRPF personnel, including an inspector, were injured in this accident. A local police officer was also among the injured.”
In a separate incident, a civilian’s pickup truck lost control and collided with a temporary ITBP bunker in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, injuring three ITBP personnel. The driver of the vehicle was also hurt.
Officials stated, “There is no suspicion of foul play in these accidents.”
Earlier on Tuesday, 39 pilgrims on the Amarnath Yatra were injured in a road accident in the Hariganiwan area of Ganderbal district when a bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge. The bus was returning the passengers when the driver lost control. All the injured were admitted to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, Srinagar.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Health Minister Sakina Ittoo visited the hospital to meet the injured and directed that all possible facilities be provided to them.
Doctors reported that while two of the injured sustained head injuries, none of the passengers were in critical condition.
Minister Ittoo expressed her concern on the social media platform X, stating, “I am very worried about the unfortunate accident involving Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Gund, Kangan. Following Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s instructions, I visited SKIMS to monitor the treatment of the injured and ensure they receive the best medical care. I wish for everyone’s swift recovery. The health department stands firmly with the affected pilgrims and their families.”
