Rewa, August 26: Recent heavy rainfall in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, has severely impacted daily life and caused significant damage in several localities. In response, discussions have commenced on a long-term flood control strategy. The situation deteriorated to the extent that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Rewa to assess the damage and held meetings with officials to issue directives.
In this context, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla convened a meeting at the Circuit House to review measures being implemented to address the flooding issues in Rewa. He emphasized the need for the revenue department to conduct an immediate survey of the flood-affected areas. This survey should assess damage to homes, household items, and other losses, ensuring that relief funds are distributed to the victims promptly and sensitively.
Shukla stated that long-term efforts are essential to free Rewa from waterlogging and flooding issues. He proposed widening the Behar River and all drainage channels as part of a comprehensive action plan. Additionally, he suggested creating water structures to channel water from the outer areas of the city directly into the river. All drains should be recorded in the revenue records, and encroachments along their banks must be removed.
Proposals should also be prepared to convert temporary drains into permanent structures. During the meeting, Additional Collector Sapna Tripathi reported that surveys of flood-affected areas in Rewa city and the surrounding district have already begun. Surveys have been completed for 600 homes in the Bhatal village and affected houses in the Nipaniya locality of Rewa city. The survey work will be completed within three days, and relief funds will be distributed in accordance with revenue circular provisions.
