As per weather forecasters in Kashmir, overall trends indicate mainly dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir till October 20, with only isolated places likely to receive light rain. The region is gradually stabilizing after last week’s spell of rain and snowfall that affected higher-altitude areas.

At Zojila Pass, the minimum temperature has dropped sharply to –8°C, marking the early onset of winter in the higher reaches. The pass has recorded about six inches of snow, with around five inches currently settled, accompanied by light winds blowing at approximately 6 km/h.

Similarly, Sinthan Top has recorded 8–9 inches of snow, while Daksum has seen 1–2 inches. In contrast, Kokernag reported little to no snow accumulation, highlighting the localized nature of the recent weather activity.

Meteorologists noted that such conditions are typical for early October but added that the intensity of snowfall at high passes like Zojila and Sinthan this year has been slightly higher due to successive western disturbances affecting the region last week.

Weather officials have predicted calm and dry weather for most districts, favorable for travel and outdoor activities. However, travelers have been advised to exercise caution while crossing snow-covered mountain routes, especially at Zojila and Sinthan, where slippery conditions may persist.
