
Kolkata, April 3: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured their first victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 65 runs at Eden Gardens on Thursday. This loss marked KKR’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
Batting first after losing the toss, SRH managed to score 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The opening partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provided a strong start, accumulating 82 runs in just 5.4 overs.
Travis Head scored 46 runs off 21 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 6 fours. Abhishek Sharma contributed 48 runs from 21 balls, including 4 sixes and an equal number of fours.
After the opening duo was dismissed, SRH lost wickets quickly, finding themselves at 118/4 in 9.2 overs. However, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy combined for a fifth-wicket partnership, adding 82 runs in 53 balls to help the team reach a double century.
Klaasen scored 52 runs off 35 balls, hitting 1 six and 4 fours, while Nitish Reddy added 39 runs. For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets, while Vaibhav Arora claimed 2 wickets. Kartik Tyagi and Anukul Roy each took 1 wicket.
In response, KKR was bowled out for just 161 runs in 16 overs. Finn Allen and captain Ajinkya Rahane managed a brief partnership of 30 runs in 1.3 overs. Allen was dismissed for 28 runs off just 7 balls, including 2 sixes and 4 fours.
Ankush Raghuwanshi partnered with the captain for 21 balls, adding 37 runs. Rahane contributed 8 runs to the total. Raghuwanshi then formed a 46-run partnership with Rinku Singh for the fourth wicket. Rinku scored 35 runs, while Raghuwanshi hit 52 runs off 29 balls, featuring 2 sixes and 6 fours, but could not steer the team to victory.
From SRH’s bowling side, Jaydev Unadkat took the most wickets with 3, while Ishan Malinga and Nitish Reddy each claimed 2 wickets. Harsh Dubey took 1 wicket.
