Life Imprisonment for Double Murder in Simdega, Jharkhand

Mumbai, June 15: In a significant ruling, the Principal District Judge Rajiv Kumar Sinha sentenced accused Naveen Bhengra to life imprisonment for a double murder case that occurred nearly three years ago in Simdega district, Jharkhand.

The incident took place on July 12, 2023, in the Mama-Bhagina village of the Jaldega police station area. According to the FIR, Naveen Bhengra attacked an elderly woman, Munika Jojo, with a wooden stick used for pounding rice, injuring her. Family members took her for medical treatment.

Upon learning of the attack, Munika Jojo’s two sons, Peter Jojo and Aseem Jojo, went to confront Naveen Bhengra at his home. A dispute arose over the reasons for the attack on their mother. During this altercation, Bhengra allegedly assaulted both brothers, leaving them severely injured. Tragically, both later succumbed to their injuries.

The gruesome double murder sent shockwaves through the village. Following a complaint from the victims’ family, an FIR was registered against Naveen Bhengra at the Jaldega police station. The police arrested him and placed him in judicial custody after a thorough investigation.

During the trial, the prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Nishi Kachhap, presented testimonies from ten witnesses along with other crucial evidence. Based on witness statements, medical reports, and additional evidence, the court found Bhengra guilty. After hearing arguments from all parties and examining the available evidence, the court sentenced Naveen Bhengra to life imprisonment for the double murder and imposed a fine of ₹25,000.
