Launch of Gurmukh Singhs Book Great Indo-Canadian Celebrated

New Delhi, March 9: On Monday, Pratyush Kant, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are true ambassadors of Indian culture. He emphasized their crucial role in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the book ‘Great Indo-Canadian’ by Toronto-based senior journalist Gurmukh Singh, Kant highlighted the significant progress the country has made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He noted the substantial contributions of Indians living abroad.

Kant praised the efforts of Indians overseas, who have worked hard to elevate both their own status and that of their homeland. They have preserved Indian culture wherever they reside.

He commended Gurmukh Singh for his role as a guardian of Indian culture and values. Kant remarked that Singh’s book transcends traditional storytelling boundaries, showcasing the lives of patriotic Indian-Canadian figures who serve as role models for the younger generation.

This coffee table book features stories of distinguished Indian-Canadian entrepreneurs who have established successful businesses and enriched society through various charitable endeavors, promoting ‘Brand India’ in Canada.

Among these individuals are those who have received top honors in both Canada and India. VI ‘Lucky’ Lakshmanan, a Tamil Nadu native and recipient of the Order of Canada and the NRI Honor Award, is a leading clean energy scientist in Canada. He founded Process Research Ortech, which is now a global leader in sustainable process technologies.

Ramesh Chhotai, originally from Gujarat and also an NRI Honor Award recipient, established Bromed Pharmaceuticals, one of Canada’s leading private pharmacy chains.

Satish Thakkar, a chartered accountant and entrepreneur born in Haryana, has led the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce and the Canada India Foundation. He founded the Excelsior Group, which focuses on real estate, and is credited with introducing yoga and Ayurveda to Canada.

Anil Shah, born in Gujarat, founded Ne-Met, a leading company in the metal trade, and is recognized for initiating the Diwali Charity Gala in Canada.

Surjeet Babra, born in Ludhiana, was the first Sikh entrepreneur to establish Skylink Airlines.

Importantly, the individuals featured in this book have donated millions of dollars to charitable organizations in both Canada and India.

Gurmukh Singh, who resides in Toronto, has previously served as a special correspondent for the Times of India (Delhi) and as a reporter in Canada. He has also contributed to major Canadian newspapers such as the Globe and Mail, Toronto Sun, National Post, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
