New Delhi, August 24: Former Speaker of the Haryana Assembly and Congress leader Kuldeep Sharma has written to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, demanding the removal of party MP Deepender Hooda from the Congress Working Committee (CWC). This request follows Hooda’s alleged comments referring to Sajjan Kumar, convicted for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as a role model.
Sharma emphasized that individuals in responsible positions should avoid making statements that could harm the party’s reputation. “I have written a letter to our national leader. I do not wish to disclose its contents to the press,” he stated.
He further remarked, “Anyone holding a position of responsibility must take this seriously and ensure they do not cause any damage to the party.” Sharma noted that his role is to convey public opinion to the national leadership, leaving the outcome to the party’s discretion. “The party considers these matters carefully, especially with the Punjab elections approaching.”
The Congress leader highlighted that following the farmers’ protests, the Sikh community was already upset with the BJP’s anti-farmer policies. “They supported us in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, so we should refrain from making statements that could hurt anyone’s sentiments,” he added.
In his letter, Sharma mentioned that since Hooda’s remarks about Sajjan Kumar, there has been growing anger and disbelief within the Sikh community in India. Several Sikh friends from Haryana and Punjab have contacted him to express their discontent over such irresponsible statements. A significant portion of the public feels that Deepender Hooda should be removed from the CWC.
