Kolkatas Red Road to Close for a Week Ahead of PM Modis Yoga Day Event

Kolkata, June 16: Kolkata police announced on Tuesday that Red Road will be closed for a week in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the International Yoga Day event on June 21.

In a social media post, the police stated, “Due to the 12th International Yoga Day celebration on June 21, special traffic rules will be in effect in the surrounding areas. We urge travelers to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the instructions of traffic personnel.”

Prime Minister Modi will attend the main event on Red Road, and the entire city is expected to participate in the celebrations.

According to the advisory, one of Kolkata’s busiest roads, Red Road, will be closed to traffic for a week to facilitate preparations for the event. Work on a temporary stage has already begun in anticipation of the large gathering.

The advisory specifies that from 2 AM on June 21 until the conclusion of the program, all types of freight vehicles will be prohibited from entering certain routes. This restriction will apply from Lenin Sarani (Maula Ali Crossing) southward on AJC Bose Road, along St. George Gate Road, Strand Road to Raja Woodmunt Street, southward on CR Avenue from GC Avenue, and on both sides of JL Nehru Road.

Additionally, Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) will be closed to all vehicles from 2 AM on June 21 until the event ends, except for those with special stickers issued for the program.

Several roads will remain closed to traffic from 2 AM on June 21 until the event concludes. These include Hospital Road East, West Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Khidirpur Road, among others. Travelers using these routes are advised to read the traffic police advisory and plan their journeys accordingly.
