Kolkata Warehouse Collapse: Rescue Operations Continue for Trapped Workers

Kolkata, June 25: Rescue teams are tirelessly working to free approximately 18 individuals trapped under the rubble of a collapsed warehouse in the Taratala area of Kolkata.

An official from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stated that efforts to rescue those trapped are ongoing. Caution is essential, as moving debris could further harm those beneath.

The warehouse, which was under construction, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kolkata Police’s Disaster Management Group and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) acted promptly, with the army and NDRF later called in for assistance.

Rescue personnel successfully retrieved 21 workers from the debris. Unfortunately, three of them lost their lives, while the others are receiving medical treatment.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the site with several cabinet ministers. He informed the media that all agencies are collaborating in the rescue efforts. “We have saved 21 individuals, three of whom have died,” he said.

He added that around 18 people remain trapped, and rescuers have established communication with them.

The Eastern Command of the Army announced on social media that four units were dispatched immediately following the sudden collapse of the warehouse in Taratala for search and rescue operations.

The post stated that a special team of rescue personnel, specialized engineers, and medical staff is assisting in the efforts. Working alongside the NDRF, SDRF, and Kolkata Police, the army is leaving no stone unturned in locating those believed to be trapped under the heavy concrete debris.
